Saturday night Rebecca promised her kids one last swim in our pool. They hurried and got their suits on and went on out to the pool. Adam went out with them and was sitting in the pool area in one of our chairs. I was inside feeding Owen and Caroline. Rebecca's kids weren't crazy about getting into the pool so they decided to walk around the pool deck. The kids were not allowed to walk around the pool deck and needed to stay either with their mom or go play outside the pool fence.
After Owen had finished his dinner, I let him out to go with Adam. I opened the pool fence and let him in. I was not in the pool area very long. Owen was walking around the pool deck and Adam explained to Rebecca that he lets Owen walk around the deck only if he is in the area with him because the pool is small enough that if something were to happen he could be there in "2 seconds."
It was not even 2 second later that I heard the splash and looked up to see Owen had fallen in the pool. Before Rebecca could get to the edge of the shelf on which she was standing, or even I could react and jump in to get Owen, in one single bound (literally), Adam had jumped in to save Owen. When Owen came up he had a scared look on his face and Adam did a great job at keeping Owen calm and not upset.
I, on the other hand had, to keep the tears from flowing freely and not let Owen see me upset. It seriously was the scariest thing I have ever had to witness with my child and never want to see again. I am putting Owen in 2 sessions of swimming lessons this year and I do believe I will be adding on to that a "survival swimming" class for him. I wasn't really fond of doing that because of how scary and/or traumatizing it can be for not only mom, but for the child. However, on seeing what just happened this past weekend with three adults standing right there, I will be looking more into the survival swimming lessons.
If any of you have a recommendation, please leave me a comment with the contact information so I can get more information and details.

I was telling Mike the other day how impressive it was that you were able to control your fear and not let Owen see it! {{{hugs}}} Quite the exciting 2 seconds, wasn't it!
